County-Wide Outdoor School

Every year Wallowa County 4-6th graders participate in a 4-day, week long outdoor school program. Kids explore Wallowa County’s plants, water, wildlife, geology and cultural and natural history. We work with schools to develop curriculum that meets state and national standards. Outdoor School helps youth gain a better understanding of how humans and the environment interact and intersect, causing change over time, especially as it relates to Wallowa County.

Each year Outdoor School occurs at a different and unique location so that kids see different parts of the valley and learn about present and relevant issues that relate to them. Past sites include:

  • Wallowa Lake State Park

  • The McDaniel’s Ranch and River Restoration

  • USFS Williamson Campground on the Lostine River
