Clayton Matheny

Monitoring Coordinator

Clayton grew up in a small close-knit community in Southeastern Ohio. His interest in the outdoors began during his youth while exploring the deciduous forests and many creeks and rivers nearby. He moved west 10 years ago, where he finished his BS in Biology at Colorado Mesa University. Out of his collegiate experiences grew a passion for ecology and sustainable agriculture. Over the past 7 years, Clayton has worked as a plant biologist in various fashions, working for the BLM, City of Boise, Idaho Fish, and Game, SYRCL (California non-profit), ERC Ketchum (Idaho non-profit), and most recently, The Nature Conservancy based in Jackson, WY. His professional interests include botany and ecological restoration, and he looks forward to playing a strong role in Wallowa County. When not at work, Clayton can usually be found outdoors hiking with his dog (Rocky), trail running, foraging wild foods, and practicing primitive skills. He also enjoys gardening, fermentation, live music, and a good book.
