Mark Porter, Noxious Weed Program Coordinator for Wallowa Resources, recently received a Special Recognition Award at the Oregon Interagency Noxious Weed Symposium, held in Corvallis. The award recognizes Mark’s role as a leader in digital aerial sketchmapping technology, his leadership in Meadow Hawkweed containment in northeast Oregon, and in cultivating relationships with private property owners in order to effectively manage noxious weeds across ownership boundaries. Cycle Oregon’s Signature Grant program is providing $35,000 to Wallowa Resources and $25,000 to the Wallowa Land Trust in an effort to preserve the Wallowa Lake moraines. In addition, members are being solicited for contributions toward that end.more...

Nine 13- to 15-year-olds recently participated in Wallowa Resources’ pilot summer backpacking adventure program. Students learned the basics of backpacking including low-impact camping skills, how to use a stove and cook in the wilderness, how to set up a tent, pack a backpack, use a map and compass and how to backpack safely. more...
