Communites and Forest in Oregon (CAFOR) project is a multi-year joint research project with the University of Colorado, the University of New Hampshire, the University of Louisville, Oregon State University Extension, Wallowa Resources, and the Carsey School of the Public.
Join us Wednesday night to hear about their research and participate in a lively discussion about their research. They have conducted thousands of interviews in eastern Oregon to understand how eastern Oregonians perceive how their environment and communities are changing. They will share what they have learned so far and want to get public feedback about these findings.
Light refreshments and food will be provided.

Have you ever wondered what was under your feet? Not just 10, but 100, or even 10,000 feet below your shoes? Scientists from the University of Oregon, Whitman College, and the California Institute of Technology are asking that very question in Wallowa County. This group of researchers will be using the energy of distant earthquakes to make an image of what lies beneath our region.
Join U of O Ph.D. student Matthew Morriss as he explains the science and methodology of a new seismic study designed to map the unique geology underlying our region.
Dr. Paul Hessburg, an expert research landscape ecologist will be in town to present a multi-media presentation called Era of Megafires. Hessburg has been traveling with the presentation to spread awareness. “The current megafire issue is a social problem with an ecological explanation. Era of Megafires addresses how we got here, what’s at stake, and what each of us can do.”
Join us at the OK Theatre on Thursday, May 25 at 6:00 pm to learn more.
