Mariah is a senior geology major at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington. She grew up in Portland traipsing through the urban greenery and natural spaces west of the Cascades with her family. At Whitman, she’s been discovering her love for small(er)-town life and understanding the natural world through geology, meanwhile getting outdoors whenever she can. Combining her hankering for adventure and desire to learn about and share the story of the landscape, Mariah hopes to work in environmental education after she graduates, possibly becoming a teacher down the road. Her outdoor activities of choice include camping, hiking, climbing, biking, skiing, and orienteering. She is thrilled to spend the summer living and working in Wallowa County, getting to know the local community, and fostering her enthusiasm for the environment and her sense of adventure.
