College Interns

Mariah Bruns - Youth Leadership Intern 2016

mariahbrunsMariah is a senior geology major at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington. She grew up in Portland traipsing through the urban greenery and natural spaces west of the Cascades with her family. At Whitman, she’s been discovering her love for small(er)-town life and understanding the natural world through geology, meanwhile getting outdoors whenever she can. Combining her hankering for adventure and desire to learn about and share the story of the landscape, Mariah hopes to work in environmental education after she graduates, possibly becoming a teacher down the road. Her outdoor activities of choice include camping, hiking, climbing, biking, skiing, and orienteering. She is thrilled to spend the summer living and working in Wallowa County, getting to know the local community, and fostering her enthusiasm for the environment and her sense of adventure.

Sarah Dunn - Youth Education Intern 2016

sarahdunnBorn and raised in Seattle, Sarah has lived in Washington all of her life so she is very excited to explore Eastern Oregon. She comes from a family of educators and has always enjoyed working with kids and their communities. Sarah spent a summer working as a camp counselor at a residential camp where she found that she loved teaching her campers about the rich local ecology and natural history. She hopes to share her curiosity and enthusiasm about the natural world with children (and adults). In addition to teaching, Sarah enjoys reading, baking, photography, backpacking, playing overly complex board games, and finding interesting rocks. Combining her passions, she is an Environmental Studies – Geology major at Whitman College. Sarah is looking forward to spending the summer getting to know the thriving Wallowa community and the incredible landscape it occupies.
